Things to do for the holidays

Its so close to christmas and I'm getting more and more excited. Once my exams are over and done with I plan to do lots of fun stuff. Heres some ideas for things to do over the holidays that you can take inspiration from.

Baking

I love baking and at christmas time its so nice to do. Have friends over and bake with them or spend some time with the family making delicious treats. My favourite thing to bake is chocolate cupcakes topped with pink sparkling sugar. But theres lots of other delicious treats to bake and decorate so go ahead :)

Pinterest is a great place to get ideas. Go to your local baking shop and get all the stuff you need to make your creations look beautiful.

Go Ice skating

Ice skating is such a fun and festive thing to do. Pick out a beautiful winter outfit and take loads of pictures. Ear muffs , White jumper dress and red lipstick. Oh and don't forget a warm coat :)

Go shopping

I love shopping especially in the sales. I always tend to do a huge haul in january. Treat yourself to a few bargains. Sure why not ;) I plan on paying Kildare village a visit. Designer brands for cheaper ... you cant really go wrong haha.

Pamper yourself

The christmas gift sets in stores are really good for taking a pamper day. Ask someone for one of these sets or treat yourself, get fresh cucumber and just relax for the day. Boots is really good for their christmas gift sets. Keep an eye out as after christmas they tend be reduced.

Origins gift set : 55.00 in Boots .... perfect for pampering

Last New years eve : I wore a black and gold sequinned dress.

Go for dinner

Whether its a date or just going for food after a shopping spree. Go to your favourite restaurants cause you might as well. I will do a blog post on my favourite places to eat soon so stayed tuned.

Cocktails with the girls

Have a girly night. Try new cocktails and even go out clubbing after. Its really nice to have a girls night and let your hair down. I tend to go Captain americas for cocktails as they are fab :)

Appletini from captain americas. Captain americas do fab student deals only 3 euro for cocktails monday - wednesday

Onwards and Upwards

Essential guide to starting college.

The transition from secondary school to college can be very daunting. This time last year I was starting first year in DIT journalism. I Remember feeling very nervous but excited for the new chapter I was about to begin. I hadn't a clue what to expect but nevertheless I knew things where gonna change. Starting college was one of the best experiences I've ever had so my advice would be to make the most of it.

Here is a guide to help you freshers make the most of your college experience

Work on your wardrobe

Wear clothes that make you feel comfortable and what you want to wear. Fashion is a form of self expression. Most secondary schools make students wear a uniform so it can be challenging to put an outfit together every morning. Before you start college shop around for a few bargains and buy key pieces that you only have to mix and match i.e jumper dress worn with either leggings / tights and Boots / ballet flats. Add jewellery or a scarf and your good to go. Before starting college again this year I invested in my wardrobe by buying key pieces. I bought a statement bag and purse to mix and match with different outfits.

New Look purse €9.99
Red or Dead Bag €26.99 T.k Maxx

Invest in a laptop or tablet

Either a laptop or tablet is very important for storing documents , writing essays and keeping you organised.

Be prepared

Invest in stationary that will last you throughout the year. Its always handy to have an extra pen. Buying stationary that suits your style will help you express your fashion sense and keep your notes pretty.

Get Involved

The way to make the most out of your college experience is get involved. Baring in mind your interests ... Join societies and meet people who share them. Its a great way to make new friends and enjoy new experiences. There will be plenty of opportunities so don't be afraid and take them.

Stay Focused

Although its a really good idea to get involved don't forget that after all the nights out , societies and events that you are there to learn. Attend lectures , study for your exams and do your assignments. After changing courses this year im gonna try and take this advice.
Have a balance ' work hard play hard '.
